Ever like to reread some of your favorite books? Maybe you
find new meaning in a story you thought you already knew? Or perhaps you just
enjoy the comfort of a book that you know ends well?
In the summertime, I like to reread books I haven’t touched
in a while. Most of the year I’m conquering one novel after another, but it’s
fun to just enjoy reading a story that I know I’ll really like. Lately, I revisited
books on ancient Rome, 19th century New England, and now I’m
reviewing some Celtic myth in the Mabinogion. Hey, it may not be everybody’s
cup of tea, but I dig itJ
So what are your
favorite books to reread? Any novels that remind you of summertime? If you
could only take a few books with you during your stay on a deserted island,
which would you bring (and survival books don’t count)?
I don't usually reread books, although I've reread Terry Brooks' original trilogy and LOTR.
ReplyDeleteI love revisitng some of my favorite books. Dragonriders of Pern is one I go to every few years. Anne of Green Gables, too. Harry Potter--the magic is in the rereading.
ReplyDeleteAt least once a year, I revisit one of Jane Austin's novels. At Christmas, I too try to squeeze in some Harry Potter.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Blue Skies. I reread Pride and Prejudice maybe once every couple of years. I also like to revisit certain classic novels years later and see how my perspective and understanding of them has changed as I've gotten older. Lots of books I read in my twenties I see differently now.
ReplyDeleteI love historican novels and mysteries, and so I'm re-reading two great books right now: "Goodnight Mr. Holmes", by Carole Nelson Douglas, a mystery featuring Irene Adler, the woman who outfoxed Holmes in "A Scandal in Bohemia", and "Claude and Camille, a Love Story" by Stephanie Cowell, about the painter Monet and his wife; despite the title, I wouldn't call it a "romance" novel; just a good historical novel giving a lot of insight into this painter's life.
ReplyDeleteI used to reread a lot more books than I do now. Now I can't keep up with my TBR pile. But every now and then I will reread a book I've read and love. It's fun finding out while I loved it so much the first time. And hopefully I still love it.
ReplyDeleteI've re-read To Kill a Mockingbird at least a dozen times. Love to read it around the holidays.
ReplyDeleteThe only books I revisit are Roald Dhal's, there are so many books out there and so little time. So am unable to do justice to all the books.
ReplyDeleteI seldom reread books, but every now and again, I'll pick up one of my childhood favorites like Anne of Green Gables or The Secret Garden. I think it just takes me back and is comforting.
ReplyDeleteLately I have wanted to reread A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. It really spoke to me as a girl.
ReplyDeleteI know I've reread Ender's Game the most, and lately I've been reading so many new books I've been unable to reread others - but I have them and I plan to. :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, that was "Claude and Camille, a Story of Monet", not "Claude and Camille, a Love Story." It IS a love story, but it is so much more. In fact I reviewed it yesterday on my Victorain Scribbles blog. If you like art and history, you might want to check out this book. It's a book men like as well as women.
ReplyDeleteI love to see so many folks rereading:) It's one of the most fun things about being a writer/reader for me:)
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm also spending this summer reading some historical books :) I went over THE HISTORY OF KINGS AND QUEENS OF ENGLAND (what a bunch of crazy ruling lunatics that was) and I'm currently reading Shaky Will's CYMBELINE on Ancient Celtic king :)
ReplyDeleteI reread favorite sections, but if I'm going to commit to an entire book, it's almost always a new one.
