Summer Rereading

Ever like to reread some of your favorite books? Maybe you find new meaning in a story you thought you already knew? Or perhaps you just enjoy the comfort of a book that you know ends well?

In the summertime, I like to reread books I haven’t touched in a while. Most of the year I’m conquering one novel after another, but it’s fun to just enjoy reading a story that I know I’ll really like. Lately, I revisited books on ancient Rome, 19th century New England, and now I’m reviewing some Celtic myth in the Mabinogion. Hey, it may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but I dig itJ

So what are your favorite books to reread? Any novels that remind you of summertime? If you could only take a few books with you during your stay on a deserted island, which would you bring (and survival books don’t count)?

  1. I don't usually reread books, although I've reread Terry Brooks' original trilogy and LOTR.

  2. I love revisitng some of my favorite books. Dragonriders of Pern is one I go to every few years. Anne of Green Gables, too. Harry Potter--the magic is in the rereading.

  3. At least once a year, I revisit one of Jane Austin's novels. At Christmas, I too try to squeeze in some Harry Potter.

  4. I'm with Blue Skies. I reread Pride and Prejudice maybe once every couple of years. I also like to revisit certain classic novels years later and see how my perspective and understanding of them has changed as I've gotten older. Lots of books I read in my twenties I see differently now.

  5. I love historican novels and mysteries, and so I'm re-reading two great books right now: "Goodnight Mr. Holmes", by Carole Nelson Douglas, a mystery featuring Irene Adler, the woman who outfoxed Holmes in "A Scandal in Bohemia", and "Claude and Camille, a Love Story" by Stephanie Cowell, about the painter Monet and his wife; despite the title, I wouldn't call it a "romance" novel; just a good historical novel giving a lot of insight into this painter's life.

  6. I used to reread a lot more books than I do now. Now I can't keep up with my TBR pile. But every now and then I will reread a book I've read and love. It's fun finding out while I loved it so much the first time. And hopefully I still love it.

  8. The only books I revisit are Roald Dhal's, there are so many books out there and so little time. So am unable to do justice to all the books.

  9. I seldom reread books, but every now and again, I'll pick up one of my childhood favorites like Anne of Green Gables or The Secret Garden. I think it just takes me back and is comforting.

  10. Lately I have wanted to reread A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. It really spoke to me as a girl.

  11. I know I've reread Ender's Game the most, and lately I've been reading so many new books I've been unable to reread others - but I have them and I plan to. :)

  12. By the way, that was "Claude and Camille, a Story of Monet", not "Claude and Camille, a Love Story." It IS a love story, but it is so much more. In fact I reviewed it yesterday on my Victorain Scribbles blog. If you like art and history, you might want to check out this book. It's a book men like as well as women.

  14. Hey, I'm also spending this summer reading some historical books :) I went over THE HISTORY OF KINGS AND QUEENS OF ENGLAND (what a bunch of crazy ruling lunatics that was) and I'm currently reading Shaky Will's CYMBELINE on Ancient Celtic king :)

  15. I reread favorite sections, but if I'm going to commit to an entire book, it's almost always a new one.
