I just got back from a quick trip to Portland. We had a lot
of firsts this trip: first time going to Portland, first time my nine-month-old
son flew on the airplane, and the first time I got to visit the famous Powell’s
bookstore!
Thankfully, my little boy did great on the plane and also
handled the rainy weather quite well. Definitely a born traveler. We hit up
many sights in town, namely the Chinese Gardens, the Voodoo Donuts shop (even
though I don’t eat donuts), and the gigantic Powell’s bookstore. Powell’s
definitely had a huge volume of material and I came away with a few more books
to add to my ever-growing reading list.
So what books are you reading currently? Which are your
favorite bookstores to visit? Do you have some favorites you like to read this
time of year?
Voodoo Donuts! I've heard about those.
ReplyDeleteGlad your son handled the trip well and you got to see Powell's.
I'm sooo glad he did well on the plane (didn't hurt that it was a short flight too).
DeleteMy brother lives in Portland. I need to visit!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you go out to dinner, try the Trader Vic's...I was pleasantly surprised how good it was:)
DeleteHey, Mark, my daughter was in Portland recently, I rarely travel, I wish a lot. My daughter had the voodoo donuts, sounds kinda creepy. Just finished reading CassaFire by Alex.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had to see the voodoo doll donuts up close:) Cool that you read CassaFire, it's on my to-read list:)
DeleteHe's getting big!
ReplyDeleteIs that a pillar of books outside the shop? Sounds like a great place to go. I've heard Portland is quite an interesting place.
Yes, that is a pile of books and good ones too:)
DeleteSounds like you all had a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteWe did, thanks!
DeletePortland: On the bucket list. Do they stick needles in those donuts? Muncher beware.
ReplyDeleteWell they do have donuts that look like little voodoo dolls...enjoy at your own risk;)
DeleteSounds like lots of fun! I hope to make to Powell's sometime!
ReplyDeletePowell's was definitely worthwhile...it's got such a sheer bulk of books that it was impressive for that alone:)
DeleteThat is one happy post flight nine month old. Definitely a born traveler and clearly at home in book stores. ;)
ReplyDeleteI know, loves travel and books...the perfect baby, right? ;)
DeleteI was wondering which Portland until you mentioned Powell's - legendary! Glad to hear it lived up to its reputation.
ReplyDeleteOur family favorite bookstore is Drawn and Quarterly in Montreal - graphic novels galore!
Cool, I'll have to go to Montreal someday to see it:)
DeleteFun!! I haven't been inside a brick and mortar store for a while. But that's mostly becasue they don't have any in my little town. Wait... I just remembered that I went to one last month when I visited the 'big city' ;) I just love to go smell those books. I totally want to try a voodoo doughnut someday.
ReplyDeleteThe ambiance for Powell's was more middle of the road, but for sheer volume, wow, they've got a lot of books:)
ReplyDeleteI loved when I visited Portland! And yes I have heard the raves on those donuts! Great and cute pics!
ReplyDeleteThanks, as a parent it's hard not to keep sharing pics of my little boy as he grows up:)
DeleteI can't seem to be able to pass a bookstore without going in. I don't think I have a favourite though.
ReplyDeleteYour son is so cute!
I've got lots of favorite bookstores, so yes, I can't resist them either. And thanks, that kid of mine keeps getting cuter every day:)
DeleteLove the pictures!
ReplyDeleteOh the magic of bookstores... I could live in them...
That's a great idea...live in a bookstore! You kind of just blew my mind:)
