1500 Books Read So Far!

I’ve just read my 1500th book! Well, I’m at least that far, anyways. I keep track of the books I read on Goodreads, and although I’ve probably left some off, I’ve conservatively read at least 1500 books in my lifetime...so far.

My actual goal is to read 10,000 books in my lifetime. It’ll be quite a challenge, but I’ve been reading 3-4 books per week for the last several years pretty consistently, so I definitely try to make reading a central part of my daily life.

That being said, quality always matters over quantity, and not all books are equal. I also love to reread my favorites and other classics, especially during the summer. However, historical figures from Thomas Jefferson to George Washington number amongst the people who have successfully read 10,000+ books during their lifetimes. I hope I can reach this goal at some point in the distant future.

  1. That's awesome! I'm not sure how many I've read in my lifetime. I have 428 read on Goodreads, but I know I've read many, many more, especially during childhood.

  3. That's a great figure! I'm sure you read many more before Goodreads existed, too. And 3-4 a week is great going.

    1. Some weeks it goes better than others, and of course not as fast if I'm rereading a classic, but it's all fun :)

  5. Amazing! That is a great goal in life. I'm not far behind you on Goodreads. I do wish I included all the children's books I've read with my son, but they count too. I am counting all the Garfield books we're reading, though!

    1. Yeah, children's books are a conundrum. I do count them, but only if I've read it quite a few times to my kids - I figure that's the most fair option:)

  6. Awesome! I should do a better job keeping track.

  8. I'll have to look to see how many I've marked as read on Goodreads, but I don't think I'm anywhere near that. lol

    1. Without Goodreads, I'd probably never have started keeping track of the number to begin with :)

  9. That's a lot of books! I read a lot, but not 3 or 4 a week. I'm impressed that you have the time!

    1. I use my commute time (on the train), otherwise, I'd never get it in :)

  10. That seems like a decent amount of reading. I've no idea how many books I've read. The only record I have is how many I've borrowed from the local library since living in my current home. Just checked from curiosity and that's 346. I thought it would be a lot more – maybe the figure only goes from when they updated the computer system a couple of years back?

    1. Yeah, it's difficult to track everything we've read, but Goodreads helps give a decent idea :)

  11. 1500 is pretty impressive. I'm an avid reader, but I don't know if I'll make 10,000 books in my lifetime. Also, like you, I have favorites I like to re-read. Reading is such an enjoyable way to spend a life, don't you agree?
