Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part II

Hello Harry Potter fans, this weekend I watched the last of the films on the big screen, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part II.” Overall, a pretty decent conclusion to the overarching film series that began over a decade ago. Don't worry I won’t give away any spoilers here.

Inevitably the discussion always comes up when readers of the books compare notes with the films themselves, and I think it's important to remember that the purpose of film isn't to simply translate a book verbatim into a motion picture. That being said there were of course things I loved in the books that I hoped to see in the movie, but it's not always meant to be. There were definitely a few memorable scenes and a lot of funny jokes from the books that got cut out, but what can you do.

So, who else out there identifies as a fan of the Harry Potter books and has also seen the latest film? Or any of the previous films for that matter? I suggest reading the books first as the films can be a little difficult to follow at times without the background information, but I leave that up to you.

  1. I am a HUGE fan of Potter books. Have read each book twice. Have seen all the movies except the last one (both the parts).

  2. Hello Mark:
Perhaps we are the only people in the world who can say this but we have not read a Harry Potter book nor seen a Harry Potter film. No,not a single one.

  3. I'm a huge fan :D I've read the whole series several times (I even have the nice hardbacks in that cool collectors case that looks like Harry's trunk). I own all the movies, but haven't had a chance to see HP 7.2 yet. I can't wait to see it! Waiting for someone to be available to watch my kids so I can slip out for a few hours lol

  4. Jane and Lance, ha!

I saw the first two films and read the first two books and part of the third. Got too gory for me.

  5. I read the first few books before watching the films and after that I just watched the films. I haven't seen the latest and last. I didn't like Part 1 at all so I'm kinda not in a hurry to watch part 2.

  6. Rachna - Right on! Never can read those novels enough:)

Jane/Lance - That's okay. It's never too late to start;)

Michelle - Ooo, sounds like a pretty cool book set. The last film is only 2 hours, so hopefully you can get a chance to see it.

Suze - Well, at least with books you can skip over some gory parts or close you eyes during the film. I think there are still plenty parts you'll enjoy.

Lynda - Part I didn't stand very well on its own, but if you've seen/read the rest of the story I think you'll still like Part II.

  7. I'm another one who's way behind in both reading and viewing...

Between this and not having read Game of Thrones, I've been on the outside of a lot of conversations. :)
