Happily Too Many Goals

Do you ever set yourself multiple goals for the month or year? Find reality catching up with your ambition? But decide to grin up and enjoy is anyways?

I set myself several goals, which have resulting in me staying up late every night writing. I vowed to write one short-story a week for an entire year, which I’m still doing. I’ve also set myself the goal of writing 1,000-2,000 words a day for the 40 days of Lent, and at the same time I’m editing/rewriting my manuscript. Needless to say, my wife is very patient with me.

So what crazy writing projects do you have in the works? Ever enjoy just giving in to the madness that is writing despite your other commitments? Do you question anymore why you engage in such literary passions or do you just go with it?

  1. Wow Mark, I am impressed! And also, you are the first person I know who is using Lent for this sort of discipline. : )

I always have multiple goals, the only way to do it in my opinion but i also let myself adjust my goals. : )

I never question my engagement in something I am passionate about_ I kind of view that as part of the purpose of life.

You have inspired me to add to my goals. : )

  2. I've found a writing fervor again this month as well. I've decided to re-write the last 2/3rds of my book and I'm planning on getting it done this month. We'll see how it goes!

  3. Hello Mark:
We are overwhelmed at the tasks which you have set yourself and really do admire your stamina. However, we do believe, and are convinced that you must share this view, at least in part, that success is the reward of a great deal of hard work, commitment, self discipline and time. We really do wish you well and will be much interested to hear how it all goes.

  4. Hello Mark, you sure have set yourselves lots of goal.Looks like you want to get as many tasks done and as fast as possible. I am way behind all my goals from a month.

I am halfway through your second chapter. By tomorrow will send you my feedback. Feel bad about the delay due to my outstation trip. Thanks for being so patient.

  5. That is crazy! Of course, I've done NaNo, so I understand the madness. And right now it feels a bit crazy as well...

  6. Mine are eerily close to yours... must be something in the air. :)

  7. My writing has actually slipped the past few weeks, because I agreed to critique two full novels back to back. Right before my big trip. What was I thinking? *head slap*

  8. Great timing for these questions. I've just decided to do an entire rewrite on my old MS. Craziness! My deadline is by the time I have my baby in May. I might be mad, but that's okay. Writers need to be a bit eccentric. : )

  9. I'm editing one MS and starting another. When inspiration strikes, right :)

  10. I did that to myself in February. I definitely over extended myself for others last month. March is supposed to be mine, but even it's getting crowded. Ugh.

  11. I love goals. I chance them all the time. My core goal is 5K of submitable fiction a week, and keeping my race score at 50 (that's keeping 50 stories on submission).

Goals change though. I'm trying to reconcile how to write me novel, and continue with me short stories this month. It's proving tricky.

  12. I flit between mad goals and meandering along. One day I'll actually get something finished :-)

  13. Now that I have my book out I can focus on promoting. But I am itching to get back to writing. After the A to Z Challenge of course.

  14. I have more goals than I have time. I have to prioritize, but it's not easy.

  15. Let's hear it for patient and supportive spouses! Mine also doubles as my muse, which of course is awesome. As you stretch yourself to the limit and burn the candle at both ends, just remember: "Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be broken."

  16. My goals are kept simple. I rarely meet them anyway.

  17. MrsLittleJeans – Well, we’ll see whether I make it or not:)

J.A. – Good for you, can’t wait to hear all about it!

Jane/Lance – Thanks for the support!

Rachna – You’re the best, I’m still going through yours, but will have it to you soon, thanks for the patience:)

Alex – Gosh, I think crazy is the best compliment I prefer of all, thanks!

Hektor – Great minds drink at night;)

L.G. – Lol! Sounds like something I would do.

Emily – Power to you! Best of luck!

Kelley – Very true, must go where the Muse leads.

Donna – Don’t lose faith…I think part of being a writer is living an over-extended lifestyle:)

Deborah – Sound like great goals, the more the merrier, right? ;)

Sarah – I’m sure you’ll get something finished and when you do, we’ll be waiting to read it.

Stephen – I’m definitely interested in how promoting goes for you. Keep me posted:)

Lynda – Prioritizing is definitely key. I will try that!

Milo – As always you have the most poignant advice! Amen to spouses and amen to your quote about flexibility…it’s been running through my mind all day:)

Richard – Better to try and fail than not try at all:)
