Do you like playing with language? Maybe you have a competitive streak and like word games you can play with friends? Ever wonder how many words contain Qs, Xs, or Zs?
If so, then you probably love Scrabble. I’ve found that most writer’s across the board (no pun intended) love playing this game. There are a lot of variations of Scrabble I like to play as well, some of which involve the players not even using the board. But I still like playing the regular way too…you’ve got to love those triple-word scores!
So how many of you enjoy a good game of Scrabble? What are some of the craziest words you’ve gotten away with on the Scrabble board? Do you feel playing Scrabble helps your writing?
We love to play Scrabble as a family. It's fun except for one son who seriously kicks out butts every time. He's fabulous with words and a talent artist as well.
ReplyDeleteI love playing with words and playing scrabble too.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a rousing game of Scrabble every once in a while, but I am awfully competitive about it. I get mad when people use simple words. I consider it taking the easy way out. :) Told you I'm competitive!
ReplyDeleteEmily, I'm right there with you! I get really angry when someone uses a simple word, especially if they beat me!
ReplyDeleteI like to play Words with Friends on my phone and facebook. I love to play with other writers too becasue it can be a real challenge. I love speed scrabble too ( or banana grams whatever you want to call it) great game!
ReplyDeleteI play competitive, bloodthirsty, take no prisoners Scrabble. Fair warning if we ever sit down for a game. :PP
ReplyDeleteYes, I play it on my iPad often!
ReplyDeleteMe! I love Scrabble. :) The craziest word I've managed is probably ludicrous . . .
ReplyDeleteI used to like playing until people found out Qi was a word.
ReplyDeleteI am actually not a fan of this game *hangs head in shame* I'm a decent writer (I hope) but a horrible speller. (Thank you spell check ;))
ReplyDeleteI admit, I play daily on Words with Friends, scramble and hanging. I can't get enough of word games. I enjoy getting those high word scores.
ReplyDeleteI love Scrabble, but I might get a little too competitive to really call it a game. More like a battle. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to love playing scrabble a lot,it used to be one of my favourite games at one time.
ReplyDeleteA couple days ago, my wife and I hauled out our Scrabble for the first time since we received it as a wedding gift! So much fun.
ReplyDeleteOoooh yes! My Nan is a demon and I hope to beat her (without help) sometime soon. *fingers crossed*
ReplyDeleteI used to love it but I've stopped because the people I played it with wouldn't let me get away with some words... they were REAL words, but my friends didn't believe me and wouldn't check in the dictionary. lol.
ReplyDeleteIf words with friends counts, then I'm a heavy scrabble player.
ReplyDeleteI never really thought of it that way. Why don't I have this game? Well, I just might have to change my mind about that. :)
ReplyDeleteMy sister-in-law and her husband met over Scrabble. Boards were aplenty at their commitment ceremony.
ReplyDeleteI haven't played scrabble for years. Nobody will play it with me!
ReplyDeleteDonna – Awesome! It’s definitely a great family game and we played it growing up.
ReplyDeleteAlice- Ditto!
Emily – Lol. I know what you mean about small words. We usually have that rule too.
Mara – It can be a challenge, especially if it’s a triple word score.
J.A. – I should try the online versions too, thanks for the idea.
L.G. – You’re on! Sounds great:)
Alex – I don’t have an iPad, but I’ll look for it online.
Eagle – I think “rendezvous” or something like that was my best.
Michael – I’ll totally use that! But isn’t it technically a word from another language? Not sure those count.
Kelley – Well, maybe it will help you with your spelling…just a thought:)
Miranda – Words with Friends sounds cool, I’ll have to check it out.
Stephanie – Sounds fun! A little healthy competition never hurts:)
Rachna – Not anymore? Do you have a new favorite game?
Milo – What a rad wedding gift, very cool!
Freya – Always good to play a more experienced player…what better way to become the best:)
Lynda – That’s odd. You can challenge with a dictionary, but if it’s a word then you should be good to go.
Rusty – Very cool:)
David – I have a feeling I know what you’ll be playing soon.
Robert – What a great wedding idea, awesome!
Sarah – Well, hopefully we can remedy that:)
I think almost everyone enjoys playing a good game of Scrabble. I know I do. Aside from the fact that the game is a lot of fun, it also has educational and social benefits to offer. Playing scrabble helps enhance one’s language and memory. It develops vocabulary and helps people with their spelling and grammar problems. The game enhances everyone’s way of building a strategy, and it can make everyone learn and come up with the most unusual words.
