There just aren’t enough hours in the day, are there? How to fit in all the needs of one day with all those literary aspirations? So what happens when you get inspired to write more than one book at a time?
Inspiration certainly isn’t a bad thing, but it can be demanding on your schedule. I find myself half way through one writing project and already dabbling into two others. Needless to say it doesn’t bode well for sleep.
So how do you balance multiple projects at once? Do you give in to your newest whims or do you make yourself finish your current project completely before moving on? Perhaps you’ve found some kind of compromise?
Hi Mark, this is problem every writer faces. When we are busy with one project another comes knocking on the door. Give yourself time to complete atleast the first draft of the project you are working on before you start the other one.
ReplyDeleteI'm just grateful when I have one idea! Right now it's on a roll though, which is cool.
ReplyDeleteI'm a very monogamous writer. One story at a time for me. I don't even like to get sidetracked with writing blog posts most of the time. :P
ReplyDeleteI am an ideas butterfly. Oooh, look. A shiny new idea, it's just perfect.
ReplyDeleteHello Mark:
ReplyDeleteWell, we really cannot imagine having more than one idea for a story at a time, let alone having the energy to keep several story lines spinning in the air at the same time. No wonder you have difficulty sleeping with such a fiery and restless imagination.
I work on just one thing at a time, or at least I try to do that. If there's an idea knocking really hard then I usually write a few chapters to see if it'll pan out, then decide what to do.
ReplyDeleteI typically only work on one project at a time, but right now I'm drafting Book #3 and my editor is about to send me the line edits on Book #1. I'm pretty sure I'll have to stop work on #3 to focus on revisions.
ReplyDeleteI'm just not good at multi-tasking when writing!
I love advice I got years ago - "Follow your energy." That's what I do.
ReplyDeleteI feel best when I have two projects going on: one marching toward completion, another at the exciting stage of newness.
I'm currently working on three projects at once. I have to pick the ones with the highest priorities eg. The one with the tightest deadline gets the most attention.
ReplyDeleteI am incapable of working on more than one project... Now, reading several at a time is common place for me.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew how to balance multiple projects. I'm just now figuring out how to write and still have time to read books. Lol!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat. It can be difficult to find time to finish projects. I have two long-term projects that I have been working on for years.
