Ever wonder how many books you’ve read? Or compared your reading schedule to others? After all, how many books do you have to read to be considered well-read nowadays?
Honestly, I’m not sure I have a proper answer to any of those questions, but I’ve set myself the goal of reading 10,000 books within my lifetime. That means I’ll need to keep up my pace of reading about three books a week for the next sixty years or so. Better pray for longevity and some decent reading glasses. But I figure both Thomas Jefferson and George Washington did it, along with a slew of other people before them so I might as well try.
How many books do you try to read in a given period of time? How do you gage how many books you’ve read thus far? I keep track of mine on Goodreads. So what will you be reading this weekend?
That's a great goal. I'm not up to par with that figure. I'm lucky to get in one book per week these days, but my writing takes precedence.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of books.
ReplyDeleteI used to read at least one a week. Now it's one every three weeks. I have been writing though!
I'm probably right on track, if you consider children's picture books. Ha!
ReplyDeleteGreat goal to have, Mark. I hope you succeed.
My reading has really slowed down. In part because I think I need glasses, and also I just read slower than I used to. These days I keep track of the books I've read on Goodreads, but it's hardly worth my time. I read about one book every three to four weeks anymore. There are stacks of books in my house I've read and stacks waiting to be read. Basically I'm buried in books, but I don't think I'll ever read 10,000 of them.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great goal!
ReplyDeleteI keep track of my books in a list in OneNote; I've also been adding them (when I remember) to Shelfari for a couple years now. Will probably be reading The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene this weekend.
Wow! That's quite a lot of books, Mark. I've read nine books so far this summer, but have completely lost track of an overall, lifetime count. I use Goodreads, but it does not remotely reflect all the books I've read up to this point.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
Now THAT'S a hefty goal! I read two books a month and thing that's a lot. Not sure what that equates out to over a lifetime though.
ReplyDeleteHi Mark, thats a LOT of books. I am praying for your longevity as well as good eyesight. That number, is it inclusive of your CP's books?
ReplyDeleteI try to read atleast 2 books every week.
I'm such a slow reader that I'm happy with 1 book a week... I bow my head in shame.
ReplyDeleteWow, dude -- I've probably read 360 so far in my life, averaging about a book or two a month. I'm a s-l-o-w reader. I look forward to reading more about your progress!
ReplyDeleteWell, these are my goals, but I hope to at least keep up my reading as much as possible...after all it helps spur on my writing:)
