Ever love a story so much you’ve just got to read it again? Enjoy revisiting your favorite stories once a year? Maybe you’ve got that classic sitting on your shelf that you always meant to reread?
It’s that time of year again for me where I start rereading a bunch of my favorite classics. Right now I’m working on Treasure Island! I started doing this in college and have loved it ever since. Instead of being in the usual grind of conquering one new book after the other each week, I spend some time leisurely delving into the details of some of my most treasured stories.
What are some books you’d like to reread? Tolkien? Shakespeare? Bronte? How does rereading a book make a story come alive for you?
I've never read treasure island. I should add that one to the list :)
ReplyDeleteI rarely read a book twice, but I have read Terry Brooks' Sword of Shannara series more than once.
ReplyDeleteOur Shakespeare Company is doing Treasure Island this year. I'm very tempted to go see it, though I don't know how they'll do it on stage.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I do like to go back and reread certain books. Pride and Prejudice is one, and, um, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I think I've read it three times. Apparently I'm starved for romance. :))
The summer I turned 15 was also the summer after my mom died. I had gotten a list of recommended reading for the college bound. That was the summer I met the likes of Alexander Dumas, Charlotte Bronte, Herman Wouk, etc. Amazing that I didn't learn about Jane Austen. lol
ReplyDeleteTreasure Island is a great book to reread this time of year! I haven't reread anything yet. My TBR list is too long!
ReplyDeleteI reread books all the time. :) One of my particularly favorite books that I enjoy rereading annually, is Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. I also enjoy rereading the Hobbit, and any of the Percy Jackson books.
ReplyDeleteFor a long time I'd revisit middle earth with Bilbo and Frodo every few years but It's been a while since I've read the whole series. I think my last re-read was Patrick Rothfuss THE NAME OF THE WIND.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of Count of Monte Cristo and Pride and Prejudice, along with some others. I enjoy rereading them often.
ReplyDeleteOh man... I never, okay rarely ever, reread anything. Too many books I have to read for the first time! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have time to reread much, but I do love Memoirs of a Geisha. And I'll admit to reading The Hunger Games more than once.
ReplyDeleteRight now I can only read non-fiction, not really the best rereading material! :)
I'm reading Treasure Island now, along with the MC in my current WIP. We both love it. Some of my favorites so way back: Anything by Edith Nesbit, the Brontes, Jane Austin, John Syeinbeck. And, of course, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I think in a re-read you definitely get more into the story's world, and you appreciate the story's layers more.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh... revisiting the classics sounds so refreshing right now... What a great idea! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteSomeday I want to re-read Les Miserables or War and Peace; though right now I'm working on reading (for the first time) Don Quixote and Anna Karenina.
I have read treasure Island way back in school. Need to revisit it again.
ReplyDeleteThe story I read right after completing it was, mist borne trilogy by Brandon Sanderson… and the Wheel of Time series, even thou I am still waiting for the last book to come out!
ReplyDeleteI read Treasure Island and Tuck Everlasting with my 7th graders every year + The Hobbit and The Giver with my 8th graders, and I haven't gotten tired of them yet!
ReplyDeleteI've reread Tolkien's LotR about three times... maybe four. I think it's time I reread it :)
ReplyDeleteI've reread Ender's Game I don't know how many times, but at least once a year. :)
ReplyDeleteThose are some nice choices for books to reread...guess I'll have to add them to my summer reading list:)
