Cover Reveal Coming Soon

My publisher just showed me the new cover for my sequel, Dark Winds Rising! I can’t wait to share it with all of you soon! Very soon.

I’ve gotten the last edits in to my publisher, and now they’re just finalizing the release date for later this year. It’s gotten moved around a bit, but that’s all part of the process of working with a major publisher sometimes. Still, St. Martin’s Press is pretty cool, and they’ve done a great job on this latest cover.

Finishing Up Rewrites for My Sequel

I’m polishing up the last bit of revisions and edit request from my publisher this week. Needless to say, it’s been both fun, and lots of work. But it all goes into making my next book all that much better.

The sequel to Between Two Fires is entitled Dark Winds Rising, and it comes out September 5^th this year! I’m sooo pumped about it and am looking forward to seeing the new cover soon as well. It’s also a new journey into uncharted territory for me as I complete work on my very first sequel to come out with a major publisher. St. Martin’s Press and Thomas Dunne Books have been awesome as always.

What Makes a Cool Cover?

I saw this cover for Radio Girls the other day and was struck by its awesomeness. I’m not getting into the minutia of the book (which was cool too), but simply this stunning example of what an effective book cover looks like. It evokes a sense of feeling while also conveying essential info to the reader almost unconsciously.

The art deco design, the image of Big Ben, the juxtaposition of the woman at her wireless set, all not only catches the eye, they tell you everything you need to know. This isn’t a book about dragons or SciFi, it’s set in London, with a female protagonist in the 1920s. Most of all, it leaves the viewer wanting to know more. Hence, they are more likely to pick up the book and start reading it.

I was pretty fortunate to have a crack team at St. Martins’ Press who worked on my cover for Between Two Fires, and I’m thrilled that I’ll get to see the cover for the sequel soon. Great things are afoot with the coming New Year, namely finishing up edits to the sequel to Between Two Fires, which will be entitled Dark Winds Rising. My publisher has finalized the release date for the second book for this coming September! How rad is that?

2016 has been quite a year for me. My debut novel with St. Martin’s Press came out just a few short months ago, and it’s been a whirlwind of planning for the book tour and other events. Speaking in Silicon Valley

Today I had the awesome opportunity to have a book talk at my actual day job! HR set up the whole thing and a few dozen employees from my company came to listen to me speak about my book. Everyone had great questions and were super supportive!

I’ve never done a book talk in a corporate setting before, and it can be a little intimidating at first to share with coworkers from my day job just what I do during my “other” job as a writer. But people had already bought my book and brought copies for me to sign. Everyone was really genuinely interested in the process of becoming a published author. Big thanks to all my coworkers!

My pictures aren’t the most photogenic and don’t really capture just how many folks turned up, but then I again I always seem to forget to ask people to take pics and send them to me after my events. I guess I get so into talking about my book that I forget about everything else. Oh well. J
