Come and Play

I’ve always been proud that I use my degree and writing skills at work as a Technical Writer. Lately, I’ve been putting those chops to work a lot. My company, Gree, Inc. has been expanding like crazy and our new video above showcases the kind of stuff I’m working on.

Needless to say, my heart and personal time have been and will continue to be devoted to fiction writing. Nevertheless, it’s nice to know that my writing done during the daylight hours bears fruit in the technical world and helps people get things done. Many of the documents I write enable gamers and developers to utilize our company’s platform and enjoy and overall better user-experience.

So how do you incorporate your writing into your daily work? Does your job have some connection to your writing and reading passions? How do you like to mix work and play?

  1. This writing thing is my day job. Yeah baby. I'm living the dream!

  2. That's awesome that you get to mix the two. I had a side job blogging for a while and that was awesome. Being a stay-at-home mom doesn't really require me to write, but I think it's good that I'm learning so much about writing so that I can teach my kids. That's worth it to me :)

  3. I do some technical editing and design work, so it ties in a little bit. Great to have a job where we can be a little creative, right?

  4. We did minutes which must be void all all drama and excitement. For a writing exercise sometimes I think I'll write up some minutes the way I would dialogue in a novel.

  6. It's wonderful that you get to "write" for a living. I use my writing as an escape from my day job. Not that I don't love being a stay-at-home mom, but some days... well, I need a break. :) Writing allows me to take the break I need while being available for my children.

  7. I *hope* to write for a profession someday *winks* But I'm constantly writing in between "real" life... fitting it in wherever I can. Writing for me is play, work, an escape, a frustration, a passion, and a huge factor that brings happiness to my life. Great post!

And pst... new follower here... thanks for your follow and kind comment! :D

  8. Good for you Mark...it is nice to be able to do that. Most of the writing I do is for work-scientific papers, presentations, proposals (ughh). When in industry I had to write protocols and handbooks. It was a great break from lab work that is truly challenging in my opinion.

I am amazed by people who make up stories, long stories, that is. Have a great day.

  10. I teach creative writing and I also write for newspapers, so it all ties up with my real passion: writing.

  11. Way to go, Mark! Very cool. As for me, I teach English and creative writing 10 months out of the year, so my day job buttresses my writing (hobby?) well.

  13. Mark! I work at IGN so I know Gree. That's so cool. I didn't know you work for them. I sometimes pitch in for features on IGN. Since I'm an Ancient Greek history buff I wrote the description for God of War's world in our Top 50 Gaming Worlds feature. :)

  15. It's so great you're enjoying your new job and using your writing skills during the day, too.
I've used my writing skills to compose insurance appeals letters. Does that count?
